Vision of The Party President

I am a proud Jamaican, a son of the soil and a dedicated member of the People’s National Party. My parents were champions in giving back to Jamaica especially in the disabilities community and I continue the family legacy through my own advocacy for disenfranchised persons and persons with disabilities. I am committed to using the law to protect rather than oppress people, as evidenced by my legislative performance. I have a record of strong leadership in my constituency and believe that I am ready to serve as President of the People’s National Party.

Our common purpose must be the creation of a 21st century Jamaica that exemplifies and upholds the progressive principles of social justice and equality for all Jamaicans. This is the foundational purpose of the Party and its socialist roots. There is much more work to be done to eliminate the remaining structural inequalities within Jamaican society. To achieve this, we must live and promote the values of self-discipline, civic responsibility, and caring for and respecting others.

I share with you my vision for The People’s National Party

Unity, Love and Respect

The People’s National Party must unite around a common purpose of rebuilding the organization so that it re-emerges as an attractive, modern, and well-oiled political machinery.

Strengthening the Party’s Effectiveness

The Peoples National Party has urgent work to do to become an effective 21st century political organization.

Constitutional Reform

The Constitution should be reviewed with the objective of making it simpler and less bureaucratic, so it becomes a tool that enhances our effectiveness as a political organization.

Capacity Building for Groups

Party groups must be revitalized by supporting them through political education, life skills training, and by being encouraged to undertake meaningful tasks of engagement within their communities.

Arms & Affiliates

Our Arms and Affiliates must also be encouraged and assisted to undertake a process of modernization and renewal, to ensure that they are relevant and fit for purpose to drive the rebuilding of the Party.

Empowerment of Party Workers

A trust fund will be established to provide tangible support to assist and empower Party Workers and their families in the areas of housing, health, education and entrepreneurship, prioritizing those who have served longest and who have the most need.

Financial Stability

Substantial focus must be placed on the Party’s finances. Sound financial management is needed to effectively and efficiently support our organization programme on the ground.

Linkages

We must become a more outward-looking organization, relinquishing exclusivity so that we can appeal to Jamaicans who have disengaged from the political process. We must focus on effective outreach, building linkages in educational and civic organizations.

Honesty and Integrity

As an Opposition, we must be prepared and cohesive so that, despite our small numbers, we are seen as determined and effective. We must assertively protect the Jamaican Constitution as the supreme law of the land, and the hard-fought rights of the Jamaican people, in keeping with our sacred oath as parliamentarians.

Get to Know My Constituency

By the Constituencies (Boundaries) Order 1966, under Section 67 of the Constitution of Jamaica, the number of constituencies in the parish of St Andrew was increased from six to eight. St Andrew Southern was among the newly-created constituencies in 1967.

The constituency is bounded from a point where Rousseau Road meets Maxfield Avenue, easterly along the southern side of Retirement Road to Half-Way Tree Road, south easterly along the western side of Half-Way Tree Road to Slipe Road. It then goes southerly along the western side of Slipe Road to where it meets the Kingston & St Andrew parish boundary at Torrington Bridge, then westerly and south westerly along the western and northern sides of the parish boundary to Spanish Town Road. From there it goes north westerly along the northern side of the parish boundary on the northern side of Spanish Town Road to Maxfield Avenue, north easterly along the eastern side of Maxfield Avenue to Rousseau Road at the starting point.

Powerful Together

Our voices are united on behalf of the People of Jamaica.
