Returning Resident Policy

RETURNING RESIDENTS ONLINE APPLICATION AND BOOKING PORTAL https://www.jacustoms.gov.jm/tags/Online-Application-and-Booking-Portal

Documents Required
Returning Residents must visit the Jamaica Customs Agency Returning Residents Unit and submit the following:

  • Valid Jamaican Passport or foreign passport that is endorsed with the unconditional landing stamp
  • Validated Bill of Lading or Airway Bill
  • Taxpayers Registration Number (TRN)
  • Documentary evidence that will substantiate residency outside of Jamaica for 3 or more consecutive years.
  • Returning Students should present a transcript, student’s I-20, confirmation letter of attendance from last institution of study and identification card issued by the institution
  • Deportees should present their Deportation Order and case file.

How to get a TRN Number

  1. Visit the Tax Administration of Jamaica website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm
    • Select forms from the menu near the top of the page – just below the logo,
    • Scroll down to TRN in the drop-down menu
    • Select and download Form 1: Application for Taxpayer Registration Number (Individuals).
  2. Complete, sign and mail the form with a notarized copy of your ID to:

  • Applications completed and signed should be submitted along with:
  • Passport OR Driver’s License OR
  • National ID/Voter’s ID, Work ID, School ID, professionally produced certified, passport size photograph or any other photographic ID MUST be used with Birth Certificate (and Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll if applicable)
  • Self-employed persons need to submit their NIS card and If trade name is different from applicant’s name the Business Name Registration Certificates needed

Requirements for Individuals (Submitting applications from overseas)

    1. Create a login on TAJ’s website; select the “apply for TRN” link; complete the web application; print and sign the completed application generated after submission and mail us (at the address below) with a notarized copy of their passport or driver’s license.
    2. Download the application from the website and have it completed, signed and mailed to us (at the address below) with a notarized copy of their passport or driver’s license.

After Applications (Form) is completed and signed, you should be submitted along with:

  1. A copy of applicant’s Passport OR Drivers License (notarized by a Notary Public). Passport or Driver’s License must include the applicant’s name (full last and first name), date of birth, photograph and signature.
  2. If someone is being authorized to collect the TRN card an authorization letter from the applicant should be attached, stating the name of the person authorized to collect the card.

NB. TRN Cards for applicants who submitted their forms via mail from overseas will then be mailed to applicant’s address as stated on application. If the Identification or supporting documents are not in English, an official translated version is also required. The signature on the application form must match that on the Identification presented.

    • Certified copies of two official/valid/current identification, one of which must be a certified copy of the applicant’s passport
    • Certified copy of birth certificate
    • Certified photograph of applicant (no more than 6 months old)
    • Certified copy of Tax Identification Number

  • Contact details of referees (name, telephone number(s) and occupation) known to applicant for at least one (1) year, with the exception of banks, schools and employers.

Apply for a Birth Certificate Online

Apply for a Birth Certificate ONLINE. Please have the following information ready to complete your online Birth application form:

  • Full and correct name of child
  • Child’s Date of Birth
  • Birth Entry Number
  • Child’s Sex: Male or Female
  • Place, Parish and District of Birth and Registration
  • Mother’s Name

Passport Office, First Time Adult Passport

You are required to obtain and complete an application form http://www.jhcuk.org/assets/files/forms/PassportApplicationForm2008.pdf.

Along with your application form you will be required to submit the following documents:

  • Birth Certificate/Adoption Certificate or Jamaican Citizenship Certificate
  • Two (2) identical photographs (NB: only one photograph must be certified and this should be done by the same certifying official who certified your application)
  • A valid Government issued photo identification (Example: driver’s license, voter identification).
  • Proof of name change if name has been changed (Marriage Certificate, Deed poll, Divorce Decree, Court Order)

PICA – for derivative Jamaican citizenship, Applying for an Adult Passport while Overseas

To renew an adult passport, the applicant should visit our website at www.pica.gov.jm and initiate the process. Adults renewing their passport will need:

• Their expired passport
• Jamaican citizenship document, i.e., either a Jamaican birth certificate, adoption certificate or citizenship certificate
• Passport-sized photograph for upload on our portal
• Visa, MasterCard debit or credit card to make payment
• An email address for receipt of relevant notification and alerts

The online passport renewal option is available to adult applicants who are renewing their documents ONLY. Additionally, 1st time adult applicants, adults who received their last passports as a minor (below age 18), persons who have changed their name and persons who are replacing their lost, stolen or damaged passport CANNOT use this option.

Title Office (To apply to register your land)

To apply to register your land the following documents must be submitted: https://nla.gov.jm/content/land-titling

  • An application form prescribed by the Registration of Titles Act and signed by the applicant.
  • A Statutory Declaration to prove possession (a statutory declaration is a written statement confirmed by oath).
  • Supporting statutory declaration to prove ownership rights by possession from two persons who have known the land for at least 30 years in cases where the applicant has no documentary proof of ownership showing title for himself and predecessors in title for 40 years.
  • A current certificate of payment for Property Tax up to date.
  • Survey pre-checked diagram (if the land is being registered by plan).
  • Any other document you may have that proves ownership eg. Receipt, Conveyance, Probate, Certificate of compliance under the Facilities for Titles Act.
  • Applications otherwise than by Plan must describe the land so as to enable identification of the location of the parcel on the ground by reference to a land mark and state the names by which the property is known. The description must state the distances along each boundary and the compass direction of each boundary line, the names of the abutting properties, the names of adjoining owners, and, where the abutting land is registered land, the registered title reference for the property. The land valuation reference number for the abutting parcels must be included where the adjoining parcel is not registered land.
